| Joe Paul and Mary Stafford with Bates school on hill in background. Both Joe's and Mary's families have lived in the area of Bates/Weeks since the 1800's and have had family members that attended the Bates School. Joe is on the Bates School Restoration Board and has taken a great interest in helping to clean and work on the building as well as fulfill his board duties with real interest. |
Charlie and Darla Abbott in Bates. Charlie is in the contract Logging business along with most of his family. Charlie's family also has the Bates General Store. The Abbotts are great supporters of the Bates School Restoration project and are some very nice friendly folks. |

| Ralph Cagle of Bates with his homemade horseless carriage. Ralph is the President of the Bates School Restoration Board and an activity leader in the community by helping also in the preservation and restoration of some of its buildings. Recently Ralph Cagle and his wife opened a nice recreation and pool hall on their place just down the road from the Bates School House. It is probably the first place of this type since back in the early 1930's. People are really enjoying it. |
Carl Maxwell from Weeks is involved in working with the Scott County Historical and Genealogical Society in collecting information and photographs to create and publish an expanded 1910 Census that includes history of the people of Lafayette Township, Scott County. His contribution of photographs used on this web-site are greatly appreciated - See Yesterday Section Pages 6, 7 and 8. |

Peggy Faye Cook Peterson and Donna Cook Freeman on the Bates School steps. Peggy is the daughter of J. Otto and Catherine McCord Cook, she started her schooling at Bates in about 1938. Donna is the daughter of Raymond O. and Edna Doyel Cook. Edna taught school at Bates. |
