SCENES IN AND AROUND BATES AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

Poteau River Bridge Poteau River
Poteau River Bridge on Walker Mountain Road at Gipson going toward Weeks. Some people might still remember the old steel bridge with SOME wood boards to drive on. It could really be scary, especially if you were a kid. The Poteau River from the bridge at Gipson. This was the swimming hole for the kids for many years. Some of the brave would dive in from the old bridge.

Sunset at Gipson Cemetery. Highway 28 in Bates
Sunset on the hill at Gipson Cemetery. Looking North over pastures from Gipson Cemetery.

Weeks Community Center. Weeks Church House
The Weeks Community Center. The people of the community has renovated both this building and their church building. They had a meeting recently, with a great turn-out, to make further improvements and to repair some storm damage. The Weeks Church Building. As can be seen and as stated already the Weeks Community has done a great job in preserving some of the historical landmark features of their small community, including the Weeks Cemetery. A great deal of the care and interest taken is thanks to Tommy Joe and Bonnie Robinson.

Weeks Cemetery Bridge to Lovins
Weeks Cemetery, looking toward gate. Old steel Poteau River bridge on road to Lovins and Weeks on Oklahoma side of border. The old bridge at Gipson was about like this bridge but the wood boards on it wasn't nearly as good , or as many.
