| The Home Place for the Essman family in Arkansas was Brawley Township, Scott County, Arkansas. The area they lived was in the vicinty of Jones Creek that ran along the south side of Walker Mountian so both the township name and the creek name were used at times like a name for a town. The Essman's ancestors apparently moved to Scott County, Arkansas from Missouri and Tennessee. Later many of the Stone Jackson and Emmiline Essman family moved to Topeka, Kansas. |

Stone Jackson and Mahalia Emmiline (Stites) Essman. Stone was born in Brawley Township (Jones Creek), Scott County , Arkansas on April 22, 1882, he died on November 14, 1962 in Topeka, Kansas. His father was Thomas Benjamin Essman, his mother was Nancy Virginia Lane. His wife Mahalia Emmiline Stites was born in Scott County, Arkansas on August 24, 1883 and died in Topeka, Kansas on October 13, 1967. Emmilines father and mother were Firmen and Lucinda Stities of Brawley Township, Scott County, Arkansas. Jackson and Emmiline were married in Scott County, Arkansas on Dec. 8, 1900. They had 11 children with all but one living to adulthood, which was a blessing in those early years of the 1900's especially with the terrible flu epidemic. There seems to be a question about Mr. Essmans first name, in some places it is listed as Stonewall Jackson Essman and then in other places just Stone Jackson. |

Russell D. Essman. Russell was born in 1907 in Scott County, Arkansas. When he was 22 he married Eula Lewis (20) of Brawley Township on November 12, 1927. Eula was the daughter of James H. and Martha L. Lewis. |
Virgil Anderson Essman. Virgil was born on September 16, 1908 in Brawley Township, Scott County. When he was 19 he married Clinie House (16) of Brawley Township, on October 9, 1927. |

His first marriage was to Ruby Eslinger of Brawley Township, he was 19 and she was 16, on April 22, 1929. His second marriage was to Bessie Elizabeth Lewis (18) of Waldron on February 3, 1934. Bessie was born October 22, 1916 and died February 6, 1998 at Waldron, Arkansas. |
